Venice means so many things to so many people.

When I think of Venice, I think of wet, winter mornings – and getting up early. Even on the coldest winter days, Venice’s tiny streets are full of crowds by mid morning.

As a school girl I used to get up very early every other weekend or so and drift around the streets of Venice. They were always quiet and almost empty. I felt like the town belonged to me.

I went for early morning strolls less frequently in the summer months. It doesn’t matter how early you get up in the summer: the streets are always crowded!

A very romantic shots. Love the way the reflections shone on the water.
Have a lovely Suday.

Thanks for sharing your memories. So often the “real” place–the one known by those who live there–is different from the one that visitors see. I like seeing Venice through your eyes!

These are such beautiful photos. The sepia in particular set such a wonderful mood. Beautiful memories of a beautiful place.
Lovely landscapes, I love each one. Narrow passages make the landscape feel so intimate. You ave a great eye and skill! I am very impressed with your photos.
…beauty in the fall
The B&W and sepia monochromes allow the shapes of the buildings and canals to stand out. Being without tourists and pedestrians, we see the work of the architectural artists, the designers of such unique buildings, as it was – delicate. We feel as if you are giving us a glimpse of why from an early age you see such beauty, because we have just seen it, too..

Oh, the multitudes that must’ve walked and rowed these ancient paths, it’s only in a dream or through other’s images that I will ever see such a grand place, thank you so much for sharing the other side of Venice!
Though I will never say never, stranger things have happened!

I visited Venice on my own in a November and got lost, late at night, in the narrow streets. It was unnerving. However many times I tried to get un-lost, I kept coming up against water and returned over and over again to the same bridge. I wondered if ever I would escape. (I did!) The Lido was deserted. Another eery experience. Those few days left a marked impression. If ever I return, it will be in the winter again.

I am here to thank you for your visit and comments on my blog on my SITS day. It is so appreciated! but I am really stopped by the beauty of these images. We visited Venice during a Biennial year, and were completely charmed by the spirit of Venice as we wandered (everywhere except Plaza San Marco, where the swarms of tourists were a bit overwhelming!) I will pass this blog along to all of my photographer friends!
