Suitcase cat bed – finished!

I have finally finished the cat bed inspired by Mrs Limestone.

I have really enjoyed this little project – it has forced me to get to grips with my sewing machine. I bought the sewing machine with my first pay cheque after finishing university – more years ago than I would like to admit. Until now, I have never, ever used it! I loved sewing when I was growing up, especially with my grandmother on her wonderful old manual Singer machine. My grandmother passed away during my first term at medical school, but the machine is still going and I have completed many projects on it.

My own machine has far more features than I will ever know how to use. When I went to buy it, I had already decided which (very simple) machine I was going to get. But there was a promotion going on at the time and I allowed myself to be sold a more advanced machine. Unfortunately, even the instruction manual intimidated me and until now I have not even attempted to sew with it.

Over the past few months I have spent a lot of time resting after surgery and hence have had more “crafty time” available than I have had in years. What better use for the time than to take charge of the sewing machine? I was so pleased with the cat pillow that I made bolsters as well! I am really looking forward to giving this to my aunt for her cats this weekend.
